Turkish National Youth Philharmonic Orchestra - 2013

Supported by the Sabanci Foundation for the last five years, the Turkish National Youth Philharmonic Orchestra (TYPO) under the leadership of Cem Mansur, received applications from 400 young musicians in 2013. The selected 80 musicians aged 16-25, enchanted art lovers by staging astonishing performances both in Turkey and abroad.

TYPO Attended the Camp between August 15- September 6, 2013

The young musicians of the Orchestra attended a three-week training camp during August 15–September 6 at Sabanci University under the leadership of Cem Mansur and master instructors who tutor various groups of instruments.   

Young Musicians and Children with Special Needs Joined Under the Common Rhythm of Music

As part of the social program, the “Awareness Meeting” brought together members of the Orchestra with children with special needs who undergo rehabilitation within the scope of the Turkish Spastic Children Foundation. At the meeting, Psychological Consultants conducted an empathy workshop with the orchestra members around the topics of “Disability” and “What is Cerebral Palsy?”.

In the final stage of the meeting whereby the orchestra members and children from the Turkish Spastic Children Foundation became aware of their differences, young musicians performed a mini concert for the children introducing all the instruments one by one.

An Unforgettable Night at St. Irene

TYPO took stage at the magical atmosphere of St. Irene on Monday, September 2 prior to the festivals and concerts where the leading orchestras of the world are invited within the framework of the international tour. Performing at the concert were prominent contemporary violin virtuoso Shlomo Mintz and Music for Peace Foundation- Children’s Orchestra founded by Sabanci Foundation Changemaker, Mehmet Selim Baki.

The orchestra first performed Beethoven’s Violin Concerto with Shlomo Mintz; continuing with works by Rossini, Verdi and Kodaly. Music for Peace Foundation- Children’s Orchestra joined TYPO to spread the sound of peace by way of music at this mesmerizing evening. The giant orchestra building up to 150 people at the end of the concert received a standing ovation lasting for several minutes.  

 

Italy Tour for Celebrating the 200th Birthday Anniversary of Verdi

Following the Istanbul concert, as part of the program celebrating 200th birthday anniversary of Verdi, TYPO appeared in 7 more concerts in Italy. The young members performed their first concert in Italy at the Ravello Festival, and also played works by Rossini, Beethoven and Brahms. During the Italy tour, the Orchestra showcased a true musical feast for audiences at the festivals and concerts that hosted leading orchestras from around the world. Kodaly, Verdi, Bellini, Haydn and Tüzün’s works were performed throughout the tour.
