Turkish National Youth Philharmonic Orchestra - 2015

The Turkish National Youth Philharmonic Orchestra (TYPO) consists of 83 young musicians between the ages of 14 and 28 who were selected among around 400 students from conservatories around Turkey. Sabanci Foundation founded and has been the main supporter of the Orchestra for the past 7 years.

The Orchestra now operates under the Cultural Awareness Foundation. This year, TYPO became a full member to EFNYO (European Federation of National Youth Orchestras).

Between July 20th - August 6th, the Orchestra did intensive rehearsals at Sabanci University, where it had the chance to practice with conductor Cem Mansur. Young musicians also met with children from the Spastic Children’s Foundation of Turkey and organized a small concert together to raise awareness.

TYPO wins hearts in Europe

In 2015, the Orchestra performed in Slovenia, the Czech Republic, Hungary and Germany in addition to its native Turkey.

The first performance of the European tour was held on August 8th at the Vigado concert hall in Budapest, Hungary where notable composers such as Wagner, Liszt or Bartok have performed in the past. The Orchestra went on to give another concert themed ‘the Ottoman Footprint’ in Eger and a third one in Pecs in August.

TYPO continued its European journey with concerts in prestigious venues in Bratislava, Slovakia on August 12th and in Prag, the Czech Republic on August 14th.

The Orchestra performed at Berlin Young Euro Classic Festival on August 16th, where it successfully premiered ”Earthwork”. Earthwork (Hafriyat) was prepared by composer and pianist Sinem Altan’s on the Senate of Berlin’s request.

In previous years, the concerts were broadcast on Bayerischer Rundfunk and Deutsche Welle. Similarly, this year’s concerts were broadcast by the Slovak Radio.

The young musicians of TYPO have performed at some of the most prestigious halls and festivals in Turkey and abroad alongside some of the most well-known soloists. Soon after the European tour, on 18th of August, they performed at Zorlu Performing Arts Center, where they received a long standing ovation from the audience.
